Museum Microwedding at the Mcnay Art Museum
May 21, 2024
Microweddings are one of my favorite type of weddings. This usually consist of a short ceremony and fewer than 50 guests. Unlike a traditional full wedding day, I can cover microwedding for 2-3 hours of wedding photography. Couples choose a small venue for their ceremony followed by a small reception/dinner at their choice of restaurant. Some microweddings can be done at a backyard of their house or of an airbnb.
To each their own is usually how microwedding works! They can do whatever they want. I love capturing microweddings. I love seeing couples enjoy their day with the people that matters to them the most. As a wedding photographer, I stay back and wait for the right moments to happen. My goal is to capture the day with little intervention as possible. That being said, this Museum Microwedding at the Mcnay Art Museum is the perfect example of the ideal small and intimate wedding.
If you are following me on instagram, you may realize how often I take photos at this location. It is the ideal location found at the center of San Antonio. If medieval and contemporary art is your vibe, consider having a date night at this museum and check it out. This museum is a 1929 mansion that shows medieval to contemporary, American and European Art. Photography allowed at the courtyard/staircase (inside) requires a reservation on their website for $200. Photography outside of the museum requires a ground pass of $30 that can be purchased online or at the entrance of the museum.
So now, let’s talk about how this Museum Microwedding at the Mcnay Art Museum unfold shall we?
I arrived at the location 30-minutes before our agreed “start time.” I usually do this, to avoid any traffic or unforeseeable circumstances. This also allows me enough time to get ready. It also gives me a little bit of an extra time to take detail photos prior to the ceremony.
Typically, the best time to capture the groom getting ready is around the time where they ask someone else’s help to put on the boutonniere. It is usually the groom’s mom, dad, or best man. Anyone can do it of course!
As the ceremony starts, I like to step back and take a wide picture from behind. If I’m shooting solo, like on this day, I will move from one side to the other during the vows to capture their emotions. Personally, I try to avoid moving too much during the ceremony. Last thing I want to do is be a distraction when the focus should only be between the two of them
After the ceremony, we immediately took the family photos. For the remaining time that we have, we spent them taking bride and groom portraits. This bride and groom portraits were taken by both prompting and posing. I like doing prompts to guide my couples to do something and that opens up an opportunity for me to capture them candidly. I love some natural posing to be able to take some editorial vibe to their photos.
If these are similar to how you are envisioning your wedding day and you are considering on having me as your wedding photographer, I would absolutely love to have a chat with you! Contact me here!
MY APPROACH IS BOTH STYLED & CANDID. DURING PORTRAITS, I GUIDE MY COUPLES WITH SOME PROMPTS AND POSES THAT ARE COMFORTABLE AND NATURAL FOR THE BOTH OF THEM. FOR THE MOST PART, I STEP BACK CAPTURING MOMENTS AT THE RIGHT TIME. MY EDITING STYLE IS TRUE-TO-LIFE WITH A LITTLE BIT OF WARMTH FOCUSING ON ENHANCING THE REAL BEAUTY AND WARMTH OF THE MOMENTS, DELIVERING TIMELESS IMAGES.
My goal on your wedding day is to capture the moments in a way that tells the story of how everything unfolds. It's important for me to build a relationship with my couples and truly understand what matters most to them.
