San Antonio Courthouse Wedding
February 16, 2024
Have you ever thought about eloping? or going to the San Antonio Courthouse for your wedding? Getting married at the courthouse is the easiest, fastest, and cheapest way to get married. Couples do this because they either want to get married now and celebrate later, or simply because they are not into the extravagance of a traditional wedding. At the end of the day, you’re still married under the law and to some that’s all that matter. So here’s a Quick Guide to Bexar County Courthouse Wedding.
Here are 4 easy steps to get married at the Bexar County Courthouse:
Apply for a Marriage License ($81 – cash/credit card, no checks). According to their website, the marriage license department is located on the 1st floor of the Paul Elizondo Tower at 101 W. Nueva St. Suite 120 San Antonio, Texas. Their office hours is from 8am-5pm Monday through Friday except holidays.
Bring the required documents to submit a proof of age and identity:
Applicant’s Birth Certificate
License
Document issued by the state of Texas, another state, United States, or a Foreign Document.
Set up an appointment with your choice of Justice of the Peace, Judge ($100 cash)
Bring 2-witnesses!
Keep in mind that there is a 72 hour waiting period following the issuance of the marriage license. Meaning, you cannot get married immediately after getting your marriage license, you have to wait at least 3 days. You must also get married before your marriage license expires which is 90 days after it was issued.
Some tips from my couples from their recent San Antonio Courthouse Wedding
“Make sure you ask who are the judges available for your wedding day. [Since] some of them only do weddings certain day and time of the week” They had to call several judges until they found the one.
“get there at least 10min before” to avoid stressing out because you don’t want to be stressed on your wedding day!
You can bring your wedding bands and vows if applicable to y’all.
Make sure to bring your original marriage license to sign with your 2 witnesses at the end.

What is a post without photos though right? It feels not too long ago when R inquired for me to take photos of their proposal. That’s why when they inquired to have me take photos of this special day for them, immediately I said yes without hesitation.
Courthouse weddings doesn’t always start at the time of the appointment it was scheduled. For example, during this courthouse wedding we were told to arrived 5 minutes before the scheduled time of 11:45am but we the wedding didn’t actually start until 12:00pm. This is something you need to expect/prepare for. However, once it starts, the whole thing happened very quickly probably 5-10 minutes? Then for the remaining time we took pictures outside the old courthouse next door.
My couples booked me for my minimum 1.5hrs and here are some of the pictures that we took:
MY APPROACH IS BOTH STYLED & CANDID. DURING PORTRAITS, I GUIDE MY COUPLES WITH SOME PROMPTS AND POSES THAT ARE COMFORTABLE AND NATURAL FOR THE BOTH OF THEM. FOR THE MOST PART, I STEP BACK CAPTURING MOMENTS AT THE RIGHT TIME. MY EDITING STYLE IS TRUE-TO-LIFE WITH A LITTLE BIT OF WARMTH FOCUSING ON ENHANCING THE REAL BEAUTY AND WARMTH OF THE MOMENTS, DELIVERING TIMELESS IMAGES.
My goal on your wedding day is to capture the moments in a way that tells the story of how everything unfolds. It's important for me to build a relationship with my couples and truly understand what matters most to them.
