The sun was out, softened by a light overcast that kept things comfortable. Meanwhile, a breeze moved through the property all day. There was just enough humidity to remind you it was summer, but never too much. Every wedding day has its own rhythm, and this one set the tone early.
First, Dana spent the morning getting ready with her girls. Laughter filled the room as hair and makeup came together. Meanwhile, across the property, Jack said “I’m putting on my suit right now.” In fact, in eight years of photographing weddings, I don’t think I’ve ever arrived at a venue an hour and a half early to find the groom already dressed. Clearly, Jack was ready, and he was not shy about how excited he was to marry Dana.
Dana, on the other hand, brought an entirely different energy. She spent nearly the entire day barefoot, and shoes only made an appearance for the walk down the aisle. After all, given the choice, she’d always rather be comfortable. It’s a small detail, but it told me everything about who she is: grounded, easygoing, and completely herself, even on her wedding day.
The Ceremony at Addison Grove
There’s a reason so many couples choose an Addison Grove wedding for their Texas Hill Country celebration. Specifically, the natural, understated beauty of the grounds doesn’t need much dressing up. On this particular afternoon, the setting felt made for this exact couple.
However, what struck me most wasn’t the venue itself. Instead, it was the crowd. Dana’s family, for example, flew in from the UK to be there. One guest even traveled all the way from China. Altogether, people crossed oceans and time zones to watch these two make it official, and that kind of effort says something. Their love was worth traveling for, and everyone in those seats knew it.
Portraits: The Story Behind the Smiles
During portraits, Dana and Jack told me more about how they got here. Honestly, it’s one of my favorite couple stories I’ve had the chance to document.
Dana grew up in the UK with a love for gardening, animals, and a long-held dream of owning a farm one day. Eventually, she fell for an American guy named Jack. Since then, the two have been building a life together, moving across state lines more than once for his work.
Here’s the part that gets me: every time a move comes up, Jack has a system for winning Dana over. Specifically, he adds another animal to the roster. As a result, their two golden retrievers are both the outcome of what Dana calls “successful negotiations.” It’s become an ongoing inside joke between them, but underneath the humor is something real. Ultimately, these two have figured out that home was never about a specific place. Instead, it’s about the people, the pets, and the life they’re building together, future farm animals included.
Reception: Strings, Slow Dances, and a Little Bit of Magic
To start, the Sienna String Quartet set a warm, romantic tone for the early evening. Then, once The Premier Austin DJs took over, the night shifted into celebration mode.
I’ll admit, when that dance floor opened up, I got a little emotional. After all, there’s something genuinely moving about watching people dance freely with the ones they love, with zero self-consciousness, just pure joy. Throughout the night, Dana and Jack danced with their families and friends, and it was one of the most heartfelt receptions I’ve photographed this summer.
Meanwhile, florals from Native Bloom Floral brought in warm, natural texture that matched the setting perfectly. In addition, Bright Event Rentals rounded out the reception design with details that felt elevated without being fussy.
A Send-Off Worth Remembering
Finally, as the night wound down, Dana and Jack made their exit in Jack’s Cybertruck. It was a fitting, slightly unexpected send-off for a couple who never took themselves too seriously. Overall, from a chance meeting in a UK grocery store to saying “I do” surrounded by everyone they love, their story proves the best love stories rarely follow a script.
Every wedding I photograph teaches me something new about love, and Dana and Jack’s Addison Grove wedding reminded me that the best celebrations feel completely true to the couple. From barefoot brides and eager grooms to inside jokes about golden retrievers and family flying in from across the world, this wedding had all the little details that make a day unforgettable. In the end, I feel lucky to have been behind the camera for it.
